Where does the hike begin?

The route uses green trail 8433, red trail 8341, and black trail 8426. Carry a current trail map and match every junction to the route number as well as the color. Colors are reused elsewhere in the desert.

The canyon includes fixed aids and steep passages. A shaded point near the Tekoa and Mashash junction can be useful for a rest, but shade is limited across the full outing.

An optional spur leads toward the Muraba’at cave area on transparent trail markings. Follow only the marked spur, respect any barrier or restriction, and return to the main route the same way. Do not enter an unmarked cave opening or handle archaeological material.

Choose Mashash Muraba’at only if the whole group can sustain five hours in exposed desert terrain, use fixed aids independently, follow a map, and preserve enough water and daylight for the approach back to the vehicle.

The route is not a casual family walk. A participant who freezes on steep ground or needs to be lifted through fixed sections can put the whole group at risk. If ability is uncertain, choose a shorter managed trail.

Water, timing, and conditions

Carry the full drinking supply from the start. There is no reliable drinking-water source on the route. Begin early enough to finish before dark with a margin for slower sections and the 1.5 km walk back along the dirt road.
