Winter 2026 to 2027 is a strong season for combining an Ein Bokek stay with one outdoor site, but it is not a guaranteed period of warm water, low prices or open trails; plan for mild average air temperatures, cool mornings, short daylight and possible flash-flood disruption. Check the exact beach, park and hotel before each day.
The current winter calendar includes Christmas Day on Friday, 25 December 2026 and the Dead Sea Marathon on Friday, 5 February 2027. Both can change transport and local movement even when your hotel remains open.
What weather is typical in winter?
At the Israel Meteorological Service’s Sedom station, the 2006 to 2020 average daily maximum was 22.9°C in December, 21.1°C in January and 23.2°C in February. Average daily minima were 15.0°C, 13.5°C and 15.4°C respectively.
These are air-temperature normals at one southern Dead Sea station. They are useful for packing and comparing months, but they do not predict a particular weekend, water temperature, wind or rainfall.

Winter is attractive because average daytime air is milder, not because every date behaves the same. The itinerary still needs two alternatives: one for a wet or windy beach day, and one for a flood warning that closes a road, wadi or park route.
Can you float in winter?
Floating may be comfortable in calm sun and unpleasant in cool wind. The key variables are the day’s air temperature, wind, beach hours, freshwater showers and how quickly you can dry and change. Personal cold tolerance matters more than an unsupported universal water-temperature claim.
Use a lifeguarded official beach. Check Ein Bokek Beach before leaving the hotel, enter slowly, stay on your back and keep water away from your eyes and mouth. Rinse, dry and put on warm layers promptly.

What is the flash-flood risk?
Winter rain is sparse and irregular, but local storms can be intense. Rain in the Judean Desert or higher terrain may enter channels quickly and disrupt Route 90 or park access, even when little rain falls at the hotel.
Check official weather warnings before every drive or wadi visit. Do not enter a closed channel, walk around a barrier or park where authorities prohibit stopping; if police, rescue services or park staff change the plan, follow the new instruction.
The risk is not a reason to avoid the entire season. It is a reason to keep one day flexible and avoid a tightly timed chain of non-refundable outdoor activities.
What is currently open at Ein Gedi?
The park authority’s current notice says flood damage has restricted Ein Gedi Nature Reserve; Wadi David is limited to the accessible path to the first waterfall, Wadi Arugot is described as challenging, and several other areas remain closed during restoration.
Winter may improve walking comfort, but it does not reopen a damaged route. Check the Ein Gedi guide and the official reserve notice, reserve the exact area if required and confirm the last entry. Choose for the whole group.
Cooler air changes how a walk feels; it does not change the park’s access decision. A route closed by flood damage, rockfall, restoration or a current warning remains closed in perfect hiking weather, and an old map cannot authorize entry.
How should you visit Masada in winter?
Masada National Park uses winter opening hours and can alter paths for wind, rain or other extreme conditions; decide in advance whether you want the cable car, Snake Path or Roman Ramp, because the entrance, effort and timing differ.
Short winter daylight matters. The last path entry or cable car can be earlier than a summer visitor expects, and Friday or holiday-eve hours may be shorter. Reserve if required and check the exact route on the day.
If a sunrise ascent is central, pack a headlamp, warm layer and suitable footwear, and verify the opening; the gate does not move with your chosen sunrise time. If conditions are unsuitable, use a permitted alternative.
What dates need extra planning?

Any dinner or event is property specific. Ask whether it is included, compulsory, age restricted and covered by the room price. Do not assume a public shoreline celebration.
Dead Sea Marathon 2027

Day two: one major site

Day three: weather alternative
Use the remaining site if conditions allow, or choose Qumran, hotel time or another confirmed plan. Leave enough road time for an airport or city connection.
