If Petra is essential, move to the seven-day itinerary. Five days can be a rich Dead Sea trip or a rushed Jordan highlights trip; it cannot be both.

Day 1: arrive in Amman
After Queen Alia International Airport, use an official taxi, transfer or rental car to the confirmed accommodation. Keep the first day proportional to the arrival time.
With a useful afternoon, choose the Citadel and downtown area or one neighbourhood and dinner. Do not schedule several paid sites after a long flight. The purpose of Day 1 is to begin rested and leave with the Day 2 vehicle, luggage and route settled.
Confirm Jordan entry requirements before the trip and treat the Jordan Pass as a separate attraction decision; current official Jordan Pass pages conflict on the minimum-stay wording attached to the visa-fee waiver, so verify that condition directly before purchase.
Day 2: Madaba, Mount Nebo and the Dead Sea
Leave Amman in the morning. Visit Madaba and Mount Nebo when their current opening hours support the sequence. If the start slips, choose one.
Madaba provides the cultural stop; Mount Nebo provides the highland viewpoint over the valley. Continue to the named Dead Sea property, check in and learn the exact route to the managed shore area.
Enter only while the designated area is operating. Follow staff, keep the brine away from your face and eyes, and rinse after leaving. Watch sunset from an authorized viewpoint rather than extending the water visit into darkness.
Day 3: a complete Dead Sea day
Begin slowly. Confirm breakfast, shore hours, pools and any treatment or meal reservation. A strong day can be as simple as a managed water visit, shade, lunch, rest and a second viewpoint later.

Do not treat mud or spa services as automatic. Ask where mud is provided, whether it is included, and what a spa booking actually covers.
Day 4: choose one regional day
Bethany Beyond the Jordan
Choose Bethany for a focused archaeological and pilgrimage visit. UNESCO identifies the site on the eastern bank of the Jordan River, nine kilometres north of the Dead Sea. Confirm the current visitor process and allow time for the structured visit.
Pair it with a slow afternoon at the base, not another distant circuit.
Wadi Mujib
Choose Mujib only when the reserve operator confirms the exact trail and every participant meets its current requirements; date, weather, water conditions, capacity, equipment and age or fitness rules all matter; keep Bethany or a Dead Sea day as the fallback.
Ma’in or a slower highland return
Use a current operator to confirm access, hours and the exact Ma’in facility. Published visitor information can describe different springs and hotel contexts. If that detail is not clear, choose a simpler return to Madaba or a full Dead Sea day.
Day 5: protect the departure
Travel to Queen Alia International Airport with separate margins for road time, fuel or rental return, check-in and security. Add one stop only when the flight is late and the site hours, luggage plan and road margin remain comfortable. Otherwise, leave the Dead Sea directly.

A rental car or pre-arranged driver works best for this route. Obtain current prices instead of relying on a historical taxi table; a driver quote should state waiting, parking, stops, luggage and the final airport drop-off.

How to shorten or extend the route
For 4 days, remove the separate Amman day rather than compressing two major stops into one; arrive, spend 2 nights at the Dead Sea, use one day for Madaba and Mount Nebo or Bethany, then continue. Keep Wadi Mujib outside the base plan unless the exact trail and return are confirmed.
For 6 days, add time where it removes pressure. One extra Dead Sea night gives weather flexibility; one Amman night gives the city a real visit; one Petra night belongs to a larger southbound route. Do not add all three by turning every morning into an early checkout.
The route should also work in reverse. When the flight, Petra booking or driver availability makes Amman the final stop, reverse the sequence but preserve the same rule: one main outing per day, a managed shore window and no unverified late return.
Keep one evening free from transfers, tickets and a compulsory event for unplanned rest.

Heritage-location benchmark
UNESCO places Bethany Beyond the Jordan on the eastern bank of the Jordan River, about 9 kilometres north of the Dead Sea. That makes the site a logical Jordan-side addition, but its controlled visitor process and current hours still need space in the itinerary rather than a rushed roadside stop.
Public-access price benchmark
Dead Sea Tourist Beach published base admission of JOD 3 for Jordanian visitors, JOD 7 for Arab visitors and JOD 10 for other foreign visitors when checked on 29 August 2026. Those are category-based admission prices, not proof that every pool, towel, locker, mud product or meal is included.
