An Italian tradition, “Gran Fondo”, which translates as “the Big Ride”, is a popular bike-riding festival with a twist. During a Gran Fondo, riders participate in a challenging route on the road, which is completely closed to traffic. The Israeli version of the Gran Fondo is happening on March 2-4, 2017, for the fifth time, at a spectacular location – the Dead Sea region. Local and international cyclists, from professionals to amateurs, can enjoy an unforgettable cycling experience at the lowest place on earth.
Following the success of previous rides, the Arad – Dead Sea Gran Fondo is this year re-introducing an exciting development. In 2017, the Israeli Gran Fondo will once again cooperate with the International Tour of Arad, to create a challenging route in an area renowned for its great cycling weather, in a world-class event organized with absolute attention to detail and quality.
This year’s event is jointly managed and operated by the Gran Fondo Israel organization and the Israel Cycling Federation, with the support of the Tamar Dead Sea Regional Council, the City of Arad, Israel Ministry of Tourism, and Israeli Ministry for Culture and Sport, and Hapoel Athletic Centers.
And for the first time, Gran Fondo Arad-Dead Sea will this year collaborate with Israel Cycling Academy , the Israeli UCI Professional Continental cycling team. With a shared vision and passion to advance Israeli cycling on the international scene, this collaboration will help make the Israeli Gran Fondo an even bigger, grander and higher-standard experience for participating cyclists.
The Gran Fondo is also working in cooperation with Twenty Peaks, a cycling challenge that covers 20 peaks all over Israel, and “The Next Ride”, a charity ride that raises money for the physically challenged.

The International Arad – Dead Sea Tour 2-4/2017: For the 11th year running, this stage race event combines three stages over two days, passing through the desert city of Arad and Masada, the world-famous heritage site. Participant include elite cycling teams from Israel and abroad, and master riders.
Arad – Dead Sea Gran Fondo 4/3/2017: This cycling race covers 155km, with a timed section of 125km. It includes a challenging 1,873 accumulated meters of vertical climbing through the wild natural scenery of the Scorpion’s Pass and the windy trails of Hatrurim. The race starts and finishes at the Ein Bokek hotel resort, on the shores of the Dead Sea.
